Website Launch!
I am so honored and proud to launch the Shauna Martin Metastatic Breast Cancer Foundation (SMMBCF) website: shaunamartin.org.
Imagine the joy and meaning you could bring to a mother who lives long enough to see her son graduate from high school instead of passing away while he is still in diapers. With the funds we raise, this can become a reality for more women like me living with Metastatic Breast Cancer #MBC.
This week, I had the privilege of attending the annual #SanAntonioBreastCancerSymposium, where researchers and clinicians announce their findings regarding clinical trials and drug research for breast cancer treatment. Every session is a standing room only, packed with doctors and clinicians from around the world to learn how to treat their patients for the better. I wish I had taken a few more biology classes there!
I have attended the symposium each year since I was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer #MBC over 6 years ago. During these 6 years, I have taken 6 different courses of treatment, all of which I learned about here!
Don't get me wrong, I have a team of amazing doctors, some of whom are presenting today. But this is my responsibility; it is my job to stay informed about what new courses of treatment have become available for me.
As I sit here listening to a researcher from Brazil, I focus on these words of wisdom: "Not all patients are the same, and our ability to identify and treat the many different #MBC profiles and biologies is the single most important factor to improving therapies and outcomes for our #MBC patients."
We plan to do this with the money we raise through Shauna Martin's Metastatic Breast Cancer Foundation #SMMBCF. We will use the funds to ensure all women have access to the resources to identify their distinct breast cancer biology and provide them with navigation through a customized treatment plan specific to them.
In this way, we will be extending the lives of women with MBC, just as I have been able to extend my life!
